Acupuncture can be used as a safe and natural approach to pregnancy support which incorporates a drug-free alternative to many common symptoms experienced throughout  pregnancy.

Some of these symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  • Morning sickness

  • Stress relief

  • Pain management

  • Digestive upsets such as reflux, low appetite

  • Insomnia

IDEAL TREATMENT PLAN: Weekly up to 12 weeks, then as needed until 36 weeks (where labour preparation begins - see below).

Chinese medicine also has high success rates in correcting breech/ non-optimally positioned babies. The most effective time for this treatment to be effective is between 34 and 37 weeks. We will provide you with moxibustion to use on BL67 until bub has made the turn.

Around 34 weeks of pregnancy, it is a wonderful idea to check in with an acupuncturist. During this stage of pregnancy acupuncture can help achieve optimal fetal positioning, physically and emotionally prepare you for birth, manage stress, pain management, support energy and sleep whilst preparing the cervix and uterus for the birth.  Once we progress to 39 weeks we start the induction phase of the treatment plan which is an alternative step to medical induction and can help to minimise the possibility of associated interventions, optimising the chances of a natural birth.

IDEAL TREATMENT PLAN: Weekly from 34 weeks to 40 weeks

After childbirth the mother often feels exhausted and depleted. Acupuncture can assist in maintaining health and smooth the transition from pregnancy. Postpartum acupuncture focuses on the physical, emotional and psychological recovery of the mother from the effects of pregnancy and labor, as well as encouraging breast-feeding. Some postpartum disorders that can be treated and supported through acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine include:

  • Fatigue

  • Postnatal depression

  • Mastitis

  • Insufficient or excessive lactation

  • Postoperative healing

  • Night sweats

  • Hemorrhoids

  • Retained lochia
